How it works

Step 1Plan the coverage

Decide what must be seen — entries, approaches, valuables — and place cameras for those views.

Step 2Choose the storage

Pick local, cloud or both based on cost, retention needs and theft resilience.

Step 3Lock the system down

Unique passwords, current firmware and a separated network before the first day of recording.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between an IP camera and CCTV?

CCTV runs closed analog video to one recorder. IP cameras join a network, so any authorized device can view them and footage can be stored locally, remotely or both.

Can connected cameras be hacked?

Poorly configured ones, yes — usually through default passwords or old firmware. Changing credentials, updating firmware and isolating cameras on their own network removes most of the risk.

Is it legal to record around my home?

Generally you may cover your own property, while audio and areas where others expect privacy carry stricter rules that vary by place. This is general information, not legal advice — check local law.
